Ground Preparation

If there is grass, we use a gas powered sod cutter to cut a 10 inch strip of sod and remove it for disposal.

On a new landscape we recommend installing curb just before sodding or seeding so grade can be brought to front edge of curb or sod can be laid over curb and cut to fit perfectly.  Underground sprinklers and plantings can also be done before curbing.

Base compaction is only done if there is loose soil or concerns of an existing condition of unstable ground. The curb “floats” on soil bases and does not generally require gravel base.

The installation process involves equipment and material that all fit into our custom curbing trailer (fig 1).

We mix the concrete used for the curb on a trailer mounted mixer and move it to site in wheelbarrows.  The base color of the curb is added during the mixing, resulting in an integrally colored curb (the curb is colored throughout the profile).

We stock grey, red, brown, and gold color powder (fig 3) which in different proportions make up a multitude of colors and tones.  Other colors are available on special order (see complete color chart at daviscolor.com).

Curb Styles

We carry the molds for three styles of curb.

Decorative Style (or slant style) is designed for stamping where a pattern is rolled or pressed into the surface to give the curb a natural or brick look.

Mowers Edge cannot be stamped but can be colored. The function of the 2nd tier of the mower edge style helps to reduce trimming.

The front edge of both these curbs is placed flush with the sod which allows for a easy maintenance edge to work against while the back edge is 4 inches high and is very effective at retaining soil, mulch, or rock.

Parking Style can also be stamped with a patterns using either rollers or press tools.

The mix is then fed into our curb extruder (fig 2) that is fit with a changeable mold to produce a colored curb to be finished to customer specifications.
